THE QUIET BEGINNING OF PHI

THE QUIET BEGINNING OF PHI

Every creative journey has a quiet beginning. Mine began long before I opened my atelier in Dubai. It began in Colombia, in my grandmother’s home.

I come from a family of makers. In my world, hands have always spoken louder than words. But in mid-2024, a single moment reminded me of something essential about creating: that meaning is what gives form to everything we make.

Below is the story that shaped PHI, shared as I lived it.

A Life Lesson, Reimagined

This series of boards began with my grandmother, Beatriz. In her late eighties and living with a limiting form of Parkinson’s, she started taking painting classes — mainly as a form of therapy and to spend time with her teacher, a family friend.

What began as a simple routine gradually became a steady source of enjoyment.

Every Christmas she would gift each of us functional objects she had made during the year. When I visited her in July 2024, she showed me a set of large boards she was developing for December. We talked about how, aside from occasional embroidery, she had never seen herself as artistic; yet her progress in painting over the past six years had been remarkable — both in technique and in the compositions she explored.

That conversation stayed with me. I had just decided to start the atelier, and her calm persistence offered the reminder I needed: improvement comes from doing the work, consistently, without overthinking whether one is “good enough.”

To honour that moment of truth, I decided that my first artistic objects, alongside my wire sculptures, would be boards: a tribute to “La Cuchita.”

From That Moment, PHI Emerged

Back in Dubai, that memory became an idea, one that led me to the Golden Ratio, φ (Phi).
A universal symbol found in nature, music, shells, architecture…the quiet geometry behind balance, and beauty.

That’s how the first PHI Collection was born.

Six boards. Six human states: Idea. Feeling. Memory. Stages. Dream. Faith.
Twenty pieces each. All crafted by hand.

Objects designed to be used, gifted, kept, remembered — living between function and emotion, design and story. All rooted in an ordinary moment that changed everything.

What This Story Means to Me, And Maybe to You

LinkedIn is a place where we often speak about success, growth and innovation.
But rarely about the stillness in which our best ideas take root.

My grandmother reminded me of something essential:

✨ Consistency matters more than confidence
✨ Meaning matters more than perfection
✨ Beauty grows when the story behind it is true

PHI began with her hands and continues with mine. Not as a product, but as a legacy of craft, patience, and intention.

PHI Second Edition
Coming very soon.

A new chapter is set to soon unfold, shaped by the same truth: beauty grows when meaning comes first.

Thank you for reading, and for walking this path with me.
